Belle Baggs is clinical assistant professor of dance in the Department of Movement Sciences at the University of Idaho. She is a dancer, choreographer, teacher, and advocate for the arts. She received her Master of Fine Arts in modern dance from University of Utah, and through her awarded University Teaching Assistantship, she focused on dance pedagogy. She also received her Certificate of Laban Movement Analysis from the Integrated Movement Studies program under the directorship of Peggy Hackney. She was a continual member of the Performing Dance Company in Utah in works by Eric Handman and Satu Hummasti, and she has performed at the National College Dance Festival in New York City in work by Rosa Vissers. She has also danced professionally as a member of inFluxdance, a company based out of Salt Lake City, dedicated to building community and social change through innovative choreography. Her training and research is grounded in Laban based somatic practices integrated in contemporary modern dance techniques, dance pedagogy methodologies, and creative process inquiry, including performance improvisation. She is recently a co-founder of the BASK art collective — a group of artists engaged in extended community projects that take into consideration social projections and sources of empowerment for women in the arts.
